131 Million of Us Plan to Travel for the Upcoming Holidays

The holiday travel season is off to a busy start, as we told you, the TSA screened over 2.9-million people on Sunday, the highest number of people to ever go through security on a single day. And according to The Vacationer’s 2023 Holiday Travel Survey, things won’t be slowing down for Christmas.

  • The travel site polled 1,013 U.S. adults about their travel plans for the winter holidays and found that for Christmas, 50.44% or about 131-million Americans plan to travel.
  • That’s up from 42.9% of Americans who traveled last Christmas.

According to The Vacationer, the busiest travel days for flights will be:

  • Thursday, December 21st
  • Friday, December 22nd
  • Saturday, December 23rd
  • And for return flights, the busiest days will be Tuesday, December 26th and Thursday, December 27th

To avoid those hectic travel days, The Vacationer says the best Christmas departure days are:

  • Tuesday, December 19th
  • Wednesday, December 20th
  • Christmas Day (December 25th) or Christmas Eve (December 24th)
  • And the best dates for return flights will be Thursday, December 28th and Friday, December 29th.

For New Year’s travel:

  • And to avoid the crowds, don’t fly out on Saturday, December 30th or the morning of New Year’s Eve (December 31st).
