Between the turkey, the mashed potatoes and the pumpkin pie, Thanksgiving is the holiday meal many look forward to all year long. Sure, the holiday is about being grateful, but the food is a close second. And according to a new survey, everyone’s really just in it for the cranberry sauce.
A poll from Ocean Spray reveals that more than three-quarters of Americans say cranberry sauce is a must-have for the holiday meal, as 83% say they “believe it’s not even Thanksgiving without cranberry sauce.” Of course, this research is done by the brand behind the most popular cranberry sauce, so they may be a little biased.
- But people have strong opinions on which type of sauce is better, canned or homemade, with 46% saying they’re as passionate about their cranberry sauce preparation as their favorite sports team.
- Some folks are extremely dedicated, as 21% of Team Homemade fans and 15% of Team Canned fans are willing to get a tattoo in honor of their cranberry sauce choice.
- It turns out, these feelings even affect people’s love lives, 28% consider it a red flag if someone doesn’t like their preference for cranberry sauce.
- This side dish is so divisive, it was even featured in in-app matching questions on the dating site OkCupid. It reveals that daters who prefer homemade cranberry sauce get 18% more likes and 18% more matches, as well as have 12% more conversations.
- Plus, 38% of both men and women would rather be asked “are you still single?” 10 times than not have cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving.
