More Than Half of Millenials and GenZ Want Real Holiday Cards, Not Digital

Millennials and Gen Z didn’t kill the traditional holiday cards. That’s right, a new study shows that the younger gens still prefer traditional holiday cards over ones that are digital. Shutterfly via OnePoll spoke to 2,000 US adults that were evenly split by generation.

The study found:

  • 2 in 3 prefer physical cards over digital ones
  • 62% of millennials prefer traditional cards
  • 59% of Gen Zers do as well
  • 51% of millennials said having a theme on holiday cards is an absolute must
  • 49% of Gen Zers said the same
  • 38% of millennials said they’d be upset to get the same generic card as someone else

Another thing the survey found? It takes the average millennial about 27 minutes to choose a holiday card and about 42 minutes to pick out a gift that’s perfect. “The holidays can be a stressful time and we know people still want to be thoughtful and gift something that feels one-of-a-kind,” Vice President of Merchandising at Shutterfly, Jessica Lesesky, says. “For unique personalized gifts, people need options that fit into their budget and busy holiday schedule to allow them to express their care and thoughtfulness to those who make the holidays special.”
