There’s a new dating trend about! Gen Z and millennial singles are increasingly looking for their “financial flame.” This comes as they’re putting a bigger emphasis on finding a partner with good financial habits. They want to be in relationships that have good financial health.
“‘Financial flames’ are couples who embrace the fact that a solid credit score, assets, and bank statements are important in a romantic relationship,” editor-in-chief of DatingAdvice.com, Amber Brooks, explains. “This type of relationship isn’t an agreed-upon arrangement like a sugar relationship [in which men typically finance the woman], but it does acknowledge that the financial stability and success of one or both partners will play a key role in their happiness with the match.”
DatingAdvice.com was behind a recent nationwide Propeller Insights survey that spoke to over 1,200 single U.S. adults between the ages of 18 and 42. The survey found that 42% of respondents said financial health is something they prioritize when looking for a potential partner.
Knowing your date’s financial situation lets you see if it aligns with you. This can help you narrow down your potential matches. Plus, Amber adds, “If a financial flame can support the lifestyle you desire, that’s undeniably hot!”
