How to Slow Down a Relationship That's Moving Too Fast

It’s so easy to get caught up in the thrill of a relationship, especially a new one. Those late-night convos, the texts throughout the day – it’s all just so fun and nice! But sometimes this can overshadow the fact that the relationship’s moving too fast.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, like you have no personal space, or are ignoring concerns your friends and family may be having, these all may be signs your relationship’s moving too fast. Trust your gut! If things are moving too fast and you’re not comfortable with that, here’s what you should do to slow it down:

  1. Talk things through. Tell your partner what you’re feeling, calmly. Make sure you don’t place blame, either.
  2. Set boundaries. You should both have clear boundaries in place, like not meeting each other’s families until month X.
  3. Keep maintaining your individuality. Make sure you still have time for your own hobbies.. and for yourself!
  4. Balance your time. Your partner should still be spending time with their friends and family, and so should you.
  5. Talk to someone you trust. Have a heart-to-heart with your bestie or someone else you trust about what you’re feeling. They can ground you.
