Signs Your Relationship Is Stagnant

When you first start going out, the sparks are there. You can’t keep your hands off of each other. You want to be together all the time. You can’t imagine ever getting tired or sick of the other person.

But after you’ve been dating a while, things change. It’s normal. But there is a big difference between reaching a level of comfortability with your partner and becoming stagnant in a relationship. When you’ve reached a point of being stagnant, there’s a level of disconnect with your partner.

So how do you know which phase your relationship’s in? Here are four signs your relationship is stagnant and what you can do about it.

  1. You feel alone even when you’re together. Instead of ignoring these feelings, bring them up to your partner and see if you can really talk things through.
  2. Nothing seems to excite you. If you’re feeling this, step out of your comfort zone and try something new with your partner that neither of you has done before.
  3. There’s a drastic decrease in intimacy. If you rarely initiate sex, do it! Otherwise, try something new to revive the passion, like having sex outside of the bedroom.
  4. You turn a blind eye to their mistakes. The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. If you want to save the relationship, there can’t be indifference – you need to talk with your partner and figure things out.
