Work is something most of us have to do, and it seems Americans are taking a glass half full approach when it comes to how they feel about their jobs. They’re satisfied with their jobs overall, but when it comes to pay? Not so much, according to a new survey.
The poll from Pew Research Center asked more than 51-hundred U.S. adults working full or part time about how they feel about their jobs. The findings reveal:
- Just over half (51%) say they’re extremely or very satisfied with their job in general.
- More than two-thirds are extremely or very satisfied with their relationship with their coworkers and three in five say the same about their manager or supervisor.
- The majority of respondents (65%) have at least one close friend at work.
- About three-quarters (78%) say they’re treated with respect and feel they can be themselves at work (72%) all or most of the time.
- Overall, 62% say they feel their contributions at work are valued a great deal or a fair amount.
- Women are slightly more likely than men to say their job is stressful (31% versus 26% of men) and overwhelming (24% to 15%) all or most of the time.
- Where workers feel less optimistic is when it comes to pay and promotions. Only 34% of those polled say they’re extremely or very satisfied with how much they’re paid and just 33% say they’re extremely or very satisfied with opportunities for promotions at work.
