Issues Most Couples Have While Watching TV Together

At the end of a long day, meeting your partner on the couch to stream your favorite show together is one of life’s simple pleasures. Watching TV together is easy and it may seem like nothing could go wrong while couples do it, but that’s where you’re wrong.

These are some of the most common issues couples have when it comes to TV viewing habits.

  • Infidelity - You start out watching together, but you go to bed early and your partner stays up late, sneaking in more episodes without you. But making matters worse? They not only skipped ahead on “White Lotus,” but lied about doing it. This kind of cheating is NOT okay, so set some hard and fast rules about the shows you watch together and if it’s okay to continue without each other.
  • Falling asleep - You start off with lots of energy and ambition to get through a few episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” together, but 19 minutes later, you’re nodding off, so you ask your husband if he’ll stop it until tomorrow. Does he have to stop for you, or is it okay to continue? If you snooze, you lose, but under no circumstances should he let any spoilers slip until you catch up.
  • Pausing the program - Maybe they pause it to comment about the show, or maybe they need to rewind because they missed the fast-paced talking with British accents. But it can be annoying when it interrupts the momentum of the show. So what’s the fix? Turn on the closed captioning to help with trickier dialects and make a commitment to be in the moment for at least one episode without interruptions.
