Even though it’s 2022, it turns out a lot of women still feel like we’re living in the past because of the old-fashioned social rules we’re supposed to follow. A Redditor asked, “What do you think is an outdated expectation as a woman?” From the way we look to how we live our lives, these are some of the best responses.
- “That all women want a relationship or to get married. I don’t get why people assume that single women aren’t as happy as the ones in a relationship.”
- “That women are always competing with each other.”
- “That we shouldn't care about men's looks when dating, only their hearts or wallets. Looks aren't everything, but for some reason, women are expected to sacrifice their sexual attraction just to get a man.”
- “Shaving!! Let us be hairy and natural if we want!”
- “That we're always dressing for men. I see many people tell women that they should not dye or cut their hair, get tattoos, or dress a certain way because it's unappealing to men.”
- “That we need to wear makeup to look presentable.”
- “Taking care of a husband like he is an overgrown toddler incapable of doing anything for himself.”
- “Automatically assuming all women enjoy, want, and will have children.”
- “That women should do all the cooking, cleaning, and household chores.”
- “That we need to conduct ourselves in a quiet, polite manner.”
- “The automatic assumption that a woman will take her husband's last name upon marriage”
- “Being ok with getting paid less than men for the same job”
- “I’m tired of having to be “nice” just because I’m a woman. Especially in the workplace where all the men are ‘allowed’ to be jerks.”
- “That we’re solely responsible for being ‘THE singular pillar’ that holds an entire family together. I’ve got enough of my own stuff to deal with. Y’all are adults too. Figure it out.”
