Some say ignorance is bliss, but would people really want to be dumb and happy? Well, a new poll sought to find out and the results are a bit mixed.
- A new YouGov poll asked folks whether they’d rather be smart and sad or dumb and happy.
- Overall, the results are about the same on each side.
- 37% of Americans say they’d rather be dumb and happy.
- But 35% would prefer the opposite, to be smart and sad.
- Men and women though don’t necessarily agree.
- 40% of men say they’d opt to be smart and sad, with 33% wanting to be dumb and happy.
- On the other hand, 40% of women would prefer to be dumb and happy, and 30% would opt for smart and sad.
- 27% of men and 30% of women are unsure either way.
- And, of course, opinions do vary based on generations
- Gen Z, those born in 2000 or later, are the most likely to say they’d rather be dumb and happy (41%), with 34% preferring to be smart and sad.
- As for other generations:
- Millennials (1982-1999) – 39% would rather be dumb and happy, 36% would rather be smart and sad.
- Gen X (1965-1981)– 38% would rather be dumb and happy, 34% would rather be smart and sad.
- Boomers (1946-1964)– 34% would rather be dumb and happy, 34% would rather be smart and sad.
