Majority Of Women Want Their Relationship To Be Like A Romance Novel

If you ever wonder why Hallmark movies and romance novels are so popular with women, it’s likely because most are dreaming of being in one. A new survey of women 18-54 finds:

  • 55% of American women say they would want their relationship to be like those in their favorite romance novels.
  • 81% say they enjoy reading romance novels.
  • 45% have increased their reading of them during the past two years of the pandemic.
  • As for why:
    • 44% find comfort in the book’s happily ever after.
    • 36% enjoy the flirty banter.
    • 30% like the steamier parts of the books. 
  • And there are many aspects of these book romances women would love to see brought into their own relationships, including:
    • Better communication (55%)
    • Spontaneous romantic gestures (54%)
    • More satisfying sex life (34%)
  • And it sure sounds like these women’s real-life S.O.s need to step up.
  • 36% of gals polled say they have fantasized about the fictional characters in their book more than their partners.
  • But partners shouldn’t be upset because 49% of women say they learn things in these books that they bring to their relationship, including…
    • Engaging in more meaningful communication (53%)
    • Spicing up their love life (48%)
    • Setting aside time for romantic getaways. (35%)
