Wedding DJs Share Their Top “Do Not Play” Songs List

When couples plan their wedding and reception, they put a lot of thought into the music they want for their processional, first dance, parent dances and maybe even hand over a list of their favorite tunes to the DJ. But they’re probably also giving him another list of music … the songs they DON’T want to hear during their reception.

The newlyweds probably prefer tunes that keep the mood upbeat, romantic and fun, while avoiding anything that reminds them of divorce, death or their ex. And it turns out, a lot of couples want the same music banned from their wedding receptions. Wedding DJ group Posh DJs recently shared a video on TikTok that reveals the top “do not play” list songs for the last year (January 26th, 2021 to January 26th, 2022.)

Songs appearing on the “do not play” list include:

  • “WAP” by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion
  • “Single Ladies” by Beyonce
  • “Happy” by Pharrell Williams
  • “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi
  • “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers
  • Country music, like the entire genre
  • “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey
  • “Y.M.C.A.” by The Village People”
  • “Celebration” by Kool & The Gang
  • Line dance songs, like “Cupid Shuffle,” “Cotton Eye Joe” and the “Macarena”
  • And the number one song people don’t want to hear at their weddings? The “Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper.
