It was a good day for animal shelters all over the country, thanks to a certain 'Golden Girl.'As we told you before, fans who wanted to honor Betty White on what would have been her 100thbirthday were encouraged to participate in the #BettyWhiteChallenge. It involved people donating at least $5 to their local rescues and animal shelters. How'd it go?
- Country singer Trisha Yearwood was able to raise$24-thousand in 15 minutesfor the cause. And that total did NOT include her matching funds up to $10-thousand.
- And local shelters all over the country saw a bump in donations. For instance, the Oregon Humane Society’s version of the challengesurpassed its original $5-thousand goal.
- The shelter in Oak Park, Illinoiscollected more than $3-grand
- Thesame happened in Maine- where a private organization raised one-thousand yesterday. And the Bangor Humane Society? $4-thousand.
Nowhere was the important work done by these local organizations more apparent than in McKenzie, Tennessee - where 27 dogswere rescued from deplorable conditions. Here's the best part...you can still support local shelters and rescues anytime!
