The Most Popular Baby Names & Trends Of 2021...So Far

A lot of babies were born in 2021, and with only two months left in the year, we can now get a better picture of the trends when it comes to what everyone named their tots.

  • Baby Center just revealed their list of the Most Popular Baby Names of 2021
  • The girl list is pretty similar to last year’s with Olivia the most popular girl’s name, followed by Emma.
  • Liam is the most popular boys name, although new to the Top 10 are Levi and Asher, with Mateo and Logan dropping out of the Top 10.

As for some of the most popular 2021 baby naming trends:

  • 40% of parents say they avoid using traditional spellings of names so their child’s name would be unique.
  • While gender-neutral names have been popular for a while, more parents this year went for names that challenged traditional gender stereotypes, with traditionally female names like Tatum, and Eden seeing increases on the boy’s list, and more masculine names like Lennon, Remington and Stevie rising on the girl’s list.
  • Names rising up the chart include Raya (up 53%), Alora (up 32%), and Ariya (up 27%) for girls, and Onyx (up 44%), Koda (up 38%) and Finnegan (up 35%) for boys.
  • Pop culturecontinuesto influence baby names, with “Ted Lasso”-inspired names like Keeley, Roy and Jamie seeing an increase, as did “Bridgerton”-inspired names like Daphne and Eloise, and “WandaVision” names like Wanda and Agatha, and even Vision (up 23%).
