At-Home Date Ideas For Busy Parents

Making time for regular date nights is important for a relationship, but busy parents don’t always have the time, energy or babysitter that it takes to make dinner, drinks or a movie happen. So how do you carve out time for fun and connection with your sweetie when you have hectic schedules and kids at home? These simple at-home date night ideas can help.

  • Ask some questions- Grab a glass of wine and get deep with questions like, “If your spouse had $5-thousand right now to spend on one thing, what would they blow it on?” Or “If they would talk to their teenage self, what would they tell them?”
  • Enjoy a no-power evening- You don’t have to actually switch off the breakers, but turn the lights off, light some candles and power down all your devices. Then play cards or board games or read to each other, erotica optional.
  • Listen to music together- When was the last time you and your S.O. listened to music that wasn’t “Baby Shark” or Disney-related? If it’s been a while, spend the evening enjoying an album or a playlist and talking about it together.
  • Have a phone-free dinner- It sounds really simple, but what’s more romantic than telling your partner, “I want to focus on you and only you for the evening.”
  • Bake a big cake together- It doesn’t have to be a cake, but heading to the kitchen with your partner is always a great way to remember how well you operate as a team. Find a recipe that seems too advanced, buy the ingredients, listen to music while you bake and don’t forget to get flour everywhere.
  • Plan a vacation- Whether it’s one you’re actually going to take or just a fantasy, it will get you talking about the places you want to see and things you want to do. And if it’s a trip you’ll be taking in real life, having it to look forward to will be a big boost for your happiness.
  • Have a DIY drinks and art night- Who says kids are the only ones who get to enjoy crafts? Grab some wine and some cheap canvases and set them up with some paints. Get creative as you work side by side for some screen-free fun.
  • Push some buttons- Video games are a great way to unwind and if you’re casually competitive? Even better!
