How To Make Big Decisions You Will Never Regret

If you’ve got the words “no regrets” in your social bios or tattooed on you somewhere, this next piece of advice isn’t for you. This is for everyone out there whose decision-making skills aren’t flawless. To make better choices you’ll have to change not just your thinking, but how you think.

  • First-Level Thinking. This is the shallow level of thinking you need to work past. First-level thinking is all about quick wins and zero concern for the future. Short-term thinking is where you’re most prone to regrets.
  • Second-Level Thinking. This is the level you want to stay in if you want to live without regrets. This is when you’re at your most profound, deep, and forward-thinking. You don’t rush yourself into something but instead, take your time and really ponder both the immediate and long-term impact of the decision you make.

If you want to improve your decision-making, there’s really no shortcut. You have to put in the time and go full galaxy brain. You’ll have to project how things will be five or ten years down the road. It’s easier said than done in a world that’s all about instant gratification, but remember that immediate outcomes may feel good today but could easily create consequences you’ll have to deal with later.
