We weren’t allowed to do much this past year but one thing we all did a lot of was thinking. And it appears one of the topics people did the most pondering on was their job because a new survey has found almost half of American workers are rethinking their career path.
There is currently a “great reset” hitting the American job market and if it hasn’t hit your workplace yet, it’s probably only a matter of time. The study found 53% of workers would retrain for a career in a different field if they could and nearly a quarter of Americans are planning to look for a new job in the immediate future. As the vaccinations increase so too will the applications.
But it’s not like people are just looking for any old job. People are sick of feeling financially insecure and lacking job security. Nearly half of those surveyed said they would be ruined if an unexpected financial event popped up. Which is probably why half the study also blamed their salary, and lack thereof, on why they’re thinking about changing gigs.
The other top issues that have lead people to re-evaluate their career path:
- 38% Work/life balance
- 34% Limited growth opportunities
- 24% Tired of working on the same projects
- 23% Not feeling challenged professionally
