You pretty much need a password for everything, and we're having a tough time keeping them all straight.
A new LastPass survey finds:
- “Password Anxiety” is a real thing for a lot of people.
- Over the past month, the average American has been locked out of 10 online accounts because of a forgotten password.
- 63% of people say it’s a recurring problem.
- 65% of respondents admit they’d forget their passwords unless they wrote it down somewhere.
- Over 50% of people are forced to reset at least five passwords each month.
- Not that it helps much, with 57% saying they forget their new password as soon as they create it.
- 64% of people even avoid certain websites because they’ve forgotten the password.
- The most common sites people avoid because of forgotten passwords are:
- Personal email (38%)
- Bank account (35%)
- Utility bill account (35%)
- And while some devices store passwords, 65% of people say they get panicked when they realize their computer or phone doesn’t have the password stored.
- In fact, 57% say if they lost their phone they’d be locked out of most of their accounts.
