Signs You Need To Take A Break From Work

I get it...taking a day off right now seems like a waste. You’re already working from home so what’s the point of taking the day off when you’re just going to be stuck there anyways? While that logic tracks, it doesn’t change the fact that you’re way overdue for a day off.Don’t believe it? Here are some signs you need a break:

  • You Keep Banging Your Head Against The Same Wall. If you keep on running into the same issues at work with no new ways to solve them, that’s a great indicator that it’s time to cash in some vacation days. That time off is where you’re going to be able to clear your head and come back with a new fresh approach. That is unless you love being frustrated all the time. In that case, keep on slogging away.
  • You Can’t Shrug Off The Setbacks.Resilience is a word you’ve probably heard a bunch in 2020 since all the stress from this year has been a real test of it. A sign your supply is running low is when you get bad news at work and you can’t seem to bounce back from it. The best way to refill your “crap taking” abilities, and to get back your motivation is to step away.
  • You’re Doing Too Much Fake Work.If you’re spending more time pretending to work, than actually getting anything done, you should stop faking it, and take a real break. Psychology professor Art Markman says “the problem with fake work is that it doesn’t relax you.” You’re still going to clock-out and feel like you really did a full day of work. Do yourself a favor, take a week off. You might be surprised to find a renewed sense of purpose when you get back at it.
