We're Ready To Travel This Summer!

It’s understandable that not many people took vacations in the first half of 2020, but it seems more and more Americans are itching to get away. According to a new Expedia survey:

  • 85% of U.S. travelers say they are likely to take some sort of road trip this summer.
  • 72% of people are taking road trips because they feel it’s safer than flying.

But it doesn’t look like we plan to go too far for our getaway.

  • In fact, 85% of hotel searches on Expedia last month were for hotels within the U.S.
  • One quarter of last month’s bookings were for same-state stays.
  • As for the main reasons people are planning a trip this summer:
    • 43% say it’s because they need a change of scenery
    • 36% have a desire to be outdoors.
  • Not surprisingly, health a
  • And safety is the biggest concern for people traveling this summer (72%), followed by:
    • Avoiding crowds (68%)
    • Budget (60%)

Due to these concerns, people are most interested in flexibility when it comes to their travel.

  • 97% of hotels booked last month were at refundable rates, which is up 20% from last year.
