Priyanka Chopra Jonas is opening up about raising her daughter out of the spotlight while she herself is in the public eye.
The Bluff star joined the hosts of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast on Tuesday (March 10) where she spoke about maintaining her child's privacy on social media as she grows up, per People. She shares 4-year-old daughter Malti Marie with husband Nick Jonas.
Chopra explained that she and the Jonas Brothers musician are trying to "deflect" attention away from their daughter to help her "have as much anonymity as she can."
"It is her normal, and people will be curious about her, and I never want her to be fearful of that or judgy or skeptical of the humans that she meets because there are good people in the world, and I've had wonderful experiences with friends like that," she said. "It's okay for her to be aware of it, but to have a sense of choice, I think will be important."
The Quantico alum understands that as both she and Jonas are public figures, they have an awareness that there will always interest in their lives. Their daughter, however, didn't sign up for that and Chopra wants her to be able to make the decision herself in the future.
"I've always been of the opinion that I kind of chose a public life. I'm pragmatic enough to be like that's the nature of the beast. If you're gonna live a public life, people will be interested and curious," she said. "[When] it comes to children, that's ... terrain we are all learning in the last like 10 to 20 years what that is gonna be like in the next 10 years, 15 years for them."
She continued, "So I think a little bit of grace is required for everyone, but also certain awareness of safety and what that means."
The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, welcomed Malti in January 2022 via surrogate. Earlier this year, the Sunday Best singer reflected on her "intense" premature birth and the "frightening" first months of her life spent in the NICU.
