Tips for Celebrating Halloween on a Budget

Halloween’s almost here! If you want to celebrate but are worried about spending too much, don’t worry, you’re not the only one. Total Halloween spending this year is expected to reach a record of $12.2 billion! That’s totally an intimidating number.

The good news is that there are still plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween while sticking to your budget. Here’s how.

  1. Look around your home. You probably already have things there you can use to put together a great costume.
  2. Rent instead of buy. If you don’t have anything at home, try renting a costume instead of buying one. Renting tends to be cheaper than buying.
  3. Buy bulk. Yes, buying more candy can actually save you money in the long run. Plus, you don’t want to have to run out on Halloween last minute to buy more candy.
  4. Ask about returns. If the store you’re shopping at is a seasonal one, ask them before buying how long after Halloween they’ll remain open in case you need to return. You don’t want to be stuck with something you didn’t use! Even if it’s not a seasonal store, make sure you know their return policy.
