Couples Who Do These 7 Things Together Have The Healthiest Relationships

We hear about healthy relationships and the importance of having one. But what really makes up a healthy relationship? David Rock and Daniel Siegel developed a model called “The Healthy Mind Platter” which shows seven everyday mindfulness exercises that couples in the healthiest relationships do.

  1. Focus time. Let’s be honest, we can be glued to technology. By having focus times, couples can be really present with each other.
  2. Be spontaneous, creative, and fun with each other!
  3. Connecting time. It can be as simple as folding laundry, cooking, or talking together.
  4. Physical time. Go for a walk, dance, or get aerobic in bed together. Moving our bodies leads to happiness.
  5. Time in. Take time as a couple to sit still and reflect internally. Some couples like to sit together in silence, prayer, and meditation.
  6. Hanging out and doing nothing to recharge together is a great idea, too.
  7. Sleep time. We can sometimes be cranky with our partners because we’re exhausted and sleep deprived. Getting six-eight hours of sleep a night has a positive effect on a relationship.
